Kwasha-Kids is based in St. Louis, Missouri and was founded in 2013 with the purpose of providing education for the underserved children of the area, with an emphasis on girls who have limited opportunities for an education. Since then, our school (located in Zambia) has grown to a total enrollment of approximately 400 students offering 7 elementary grades. With the help of parents and financial assistance of private donations, the school has moved from it’s initial thatched-roof, open-air classroom, where students sat on the ground, to a school building with desks. The faculty has grown as well, from 2 teachers to 11, who teach in morning and afternoon shifts. With the purpose of supplementing meals for the students, the school has also started a farm where corn, soybeans, beans, peanuts, and other vegetables are grown.

Students

The students at Kwasha school are eager to learn in spite of very challenging life conditions including the death of many parents from illness and subsequent extreme poverty. Understanding the importance of education, the students are willing to walk to school 45 minutes - 1 hour each way.

This student has graduated from 12th grade and celebrates with his sister.

These undernourished children wait patiently in line for a meal.

Students are remarkably quiet and attentive to the teacher in the classroom.

The students are excited to have the opportunity to take an exam for promotion to the 8th grade.
